I have a transposing question

1. I have some simple transposition question if I have a trumpet part written in do I transpose up one half step or down step if I知 using my B-flat trumpet
2. If I have a trumpet part written in E and I use a B-flat trumpet I know that I transpose up a tritone (Augmented 4th) or 6 half steps right. What do you do if it is a C trumpet is it up a major third (3 half steps up)?

A major third is three WHOLE steps. I think bass clef with 4 sharps.

C=E
D=F#
E=G#
F=A

You get the picture.

Actually...wouldn't a major third be TWO whole steps up from the starting note (minor third is the three 1/2 steps originally referenced).

C to D is one whole step, D to E is another (two) whole step. The INTERVAL from C to E is a third, but it's actually two whole steps....

Written in what?? A 'trumpet' part is written in Bb...If you're using a C-trumpet going to Bb music, you lower it a full step. If you can get access to a keyboard you can figure it out fairly easily.

Oh, boy. I'll trust the older guys (assuming the people who post like they know what they are talking about are older) to have that one right. Too much for my brain.

i post this in all the transposition posts:

"go from whats in your hand, to whats on the stand"

Bb-C is a whole step up, so u trans. up a whole step
Bb-A, is a half step down, so u trans down a half step

its so easy when u think about it like that....

It's written in "do" - pronounced "doe" as in "do, a deer" and "do, re, mi". "Do" means it's written in the key of C and should be transposed up a whole tone to be played on Bb trumpet.
