![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Interesting article on noise level in the NY Times This is a reality! The development of instruments has been more at the loud end than at the other side! Even the steel wound strings on violins, violas and celli are MUCH louder than their gut predecessors. There will be repercussions! I guess Herbert Clarke was WAY ahead of his time. He always advocated playing softly! |

| Re: Interesting article on noise level in the NY Times Not so crazy! One of the reasons I left the professional world was because many of the venues and/or types of gigs I did were harmful to my ears. When I play with my current jazz orchestra we rehearse so our bells aren't pointing behind the trombone section, the drummer in a position where his cymbals aren't smack in someones ears, etc.. We make sure sound levels for amplified instruments are kept at a decent level. Everyone should be sensitive to decibel levels and practice and perform accordingly! |

| Re: Interesting article on noise level in the NY Times Twas a joke, albeit a lousy one ! No, it's not so crazy, and just another example of noise pollution in modern times. I once had a car installer who would proudly demonstrate his car audio system by placing a plastic cup on the roof and then make it bounce from the sheer volume of his audio system. He spoke rather loudly most of the time (Wonder why ?) These examples are something our forefathers never encountered. It's also a great investment opportunity for future investors. Can you say miracle ear, boys and girls ! |

| Re: Interesting article on noise level in the NY Times It's too bad the Times article keeps refering to the noise that the orchestra produces. I am sure it is quite loud, but noise? That has bad connotations for me. |

The little riceburners with the stupid 8x's too big mufflers that sound like a jet is overhead. The other folxs who blast their stereos to the point of their cars fall apart due to sympathetic vibrations, people shouting into their cell phones, etc, etc... "Can you hear me now?!" |
