![]() ![]() ![]() | Just added the Hummel... Today (11/29/08) I had a tough gig with a rock band. In the afternoon, in preparation, I recorded a read through of the Hummel, 3rd movement. I need to do contrasting work during the day with the gigs I face in the evening, for sanity's sake. Just go to... Nick Drozdoff :: Home and hit the media page tab near the top. I've got the video embedded there. If you prefer, you can go straight to Youtube... Just tying to share. As jazz player, I know I'm a little out of my element, but I do like to try and keep my hand in. I do wish I could get e new Eb. My old axe is pretty messed up, but it will have to do for now. I hope some folks can enjoy this. Peace. Nick

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Just added the Hummel... Thanks, Chuck! You are most kind. As a jazz/lead player I think it is very important to keep my hand in with classical playing as an underpinning of all that I do. Crusader, as to Eb, the neatest one I've ever had was a Stomvi that Felix brought to a trumpet show we did here in the Chicago area. I wish I had the bread to buy one! A member of the CSO bought the one Felix had brought with him. Right now, I'm paying tuition for my son in college (go Illini!) so given how rarely I get to play Eb for pay, I can't justify buying a new one, right now. That horn was cobbled together from spare parts by Wayne Tanabe many years ago. It never really played that well on the D side and the Eb setup is only OK (quite a bit out of tune). I had an old cheap Yamaha short model and Wayne had a couple of bells laying around, so at my urging, I convinced him to throw this together. It got me through grad school! I literally slapped this together in the afternoon as part of my warm up for my evening rock gig. It was a blast fest, and I could see that coming, so I wanted my afternoon practice session to be a more sublime moment. I'd love to actually work this piece up and record it with a full orchestra. Hope springs eternal! Peace, all! Nick

![]() | Re: Just added the Hummel... Thanks for the info! I wish that I could "slap somehting together" and have it sound that good. Very nice, and If you do perform it with strings, be sure to post a video! I do agree with you when it comes to keeping one's legit chops up, even if you're a jazz player by trade. I think that you should always learn the "classical" way of an instrment, I think that you then fully understand the horn and what you're doing with it. Just a thought... Cheers
