Hello all,

Dr. Langston J. Fitzgerald, III, professor of trumpet at Penn State University and former member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will be accompanying the Baltimore Choral Arts Society on their European tour in July 2007. The concert will consist of “Fitz” soloing with the Paris-based orchestra playing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto, and the Mozart Requiem. There will be two concerts in Paris on July 7th and 8th, and a concert in Aix-en Provence on the 10th.

The Baltimore Choral Arts Society Principal Trumpet and Orchestra Contractor, Langston J. Fitzgerald, III, has been invited by the Society to accompany them on The TOUR de France July 2007. Dr. Fitzgerald, Professor of Trumpet at the Penn State University's School of Music, will be featured as Trumpet Soloist, performing the Franz Joseph Haydn Concerto in E-Flat Major. The balance of the program will feature the Choral Arts Society performing Leopold Mozart's "Requiem." The TOUR De France includes two concerts in Paris, and one in Aix-en Provence, France. The Concert on July 7, 2007, will be a Concert with the Académie Saint Louis en l’Île in Eglise St. Louis en l’Île, as part of Festival de Musique en l’Île. The Concert on July 8, 2007, will be a Concert with the Académie Saint Louis en l’Île in Eglise Collégiale St-Maurice, as part of the Festival Correspondances. The Concert scheduled on July 10, 2007 will be a Concert with Les Violons de France in Eglise Collégiale Sainte Croix as part of the Montélimar Festival Voix et Guitares.

Dr. Langston J. Fitzgerald III, professor of trumpet at Penn State University, and first trumpet of the Penn State University faculty brass quintet, the Pennsylvania BrassWorks, played trumpet with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 1970 to 2003. Fitzgerald has played extra with the National Symphony and performed as assistant principal trumpet with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He is principal trumpet and musical contractor of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society Orchestra. In addition, he is first trumpet and founder of both the Giavanni and the Potomac brass quintets. His freelancing in Baltimore and Washington has included performing at three presidential inaugurations, numerous Broadway musicals, and several nationally and internationally televised specials, including three Presidential "Christmas in Washington" programs. He helped to contract and played co-principal trumpet at the nationally televised millennium celebration at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC
Prior to joining the Penn State faculty, Fitzgerald taught trumpet at the Catholic University from 1990 to 2003 and the Peabody Conservatory of Music from 1990 to 2005. He was lecturer at the National Orchestral Institute at the University of Maryland at College Park. Fitzgerald served as assistant professor of trumpet, coordinator of the brass department, and orchestra conductor at Howard University. He has also taught trumpet at Morgan State University, the Duke Ellington High School for the Performing Arts, University of Maryland at Baltimore County, University of the District of Columbia, Towson State University, and Western Maryland College.
He is a graduate of Howard University (B. M. E.) and Catholic University of America (M. M. and DMA). He is a member of the International Trumpet Guild and is on the board of the International Women's Brass Conference. Fitzgerald is also a member of the American Federation of Musicians in Washington, DC and Baltimore.

Nope, he sure doesn't. I was over at his house the other day, and he played it for me, and sounded FANTASTIC!!! Now I'm sure that Fitz has played the Haydn a thousand times, but you can really tell he's been tearing the thing apart and getting down to it.

Just goes to show that there are always new things to learn, even in a piece we all ALREADY know, like the Haydn!
