I first heard that on the radio while driving the German Autobahn on the way back from a rehearsal, and was blown away! The radio was using it as some "fill music" wheil waiting for someone to call in with the proper quiz answer. No one did, so they played the whole cut, and I was going crazy trying to figure out who the trumpeters were--kinda like two Clark Terry's on steroids. Even the announcer said "wow-I'm glad no one got the answer" and announced that it was the Michel Legrand Big Band with Maurice Andre.

Wow.

Andre actually recorded another versoin of Caravan back in the late 50's. A friend of mine who is a trumpet player and record dealer came back from a buying trip to France with a copy. I think it was played with a theatre orchestra of some sort. A 45rpm single with his photo on the front cover looking very, very young - obviously before he won the big solo competition.
