Re: Longinotti plays the Haydn Concerto

Boy, if we were in disagreement about the Phil Smith rendition, this one will get even heavier. Let me just say that I stopped listening after the first 20 or 30 bars of trumpet. The sense of rhythm does not fit in my trumpet solo world.

Thanks but it's in German. It's nice to have these clips but it's a pain in the butt to try and get them to play.

Great. You have your OWN opinion and do not rely on that crazy thing called the consensus opinion. There is no consensus opinion. Except for those who have no opinion of their own.

Actually there IS a consensus opinion, but only in Chicago. Here is a riddle to illustrate this

Q: How do you destroy the city of Chicago?

A: In the middle of rush hour traffic, have someone come on all the radio stations at one time and say that he doesn't think Adolph Herseth is the greatest trumpet player of all time

Deviations from the above opinion will not be tolerated.

I am very surprised about the Phil Smith Haydn thread. Isn't he the golden boy here? He was last year when I gave my opinion and I faced the wrath of the group

BTW I heard this once at an Education Conference

Q: Tell me what you think about Herseth:
A: (Vacchiano student from the late 40s)--He couldn't get a job in NY.

Make up your own mind of what you like. You never know. James Chambers reviewed many of the theories of wind playing thought to be engraved in stone and an rejected them as false. He did pretty well for himself

Did you listen to Longinotti plae the Debussy?

Re: Longinotti plays the Haydn Concerto

Interesting. Not my cup of tea, but historically, it is worth a listen.

What the heck horn was he playing? It sounds like he's got a harmon mute shoved tight in his bell...

Re: Longinotti plays the Haydn Concerto

I liked the Debussy, but I found his sound a little grating on the Hadyn

Re: Longinotti plays the Haydn Concerto

Did you burn the flacs to cd and listen on your main stereo or did you listen on your computer speakers which feature midrange, midrange and more midrange

BTW-the two instruments most effected by the audiphoolishness de riguer since the beginning of recorded Music are trumpet and oboe. You gotta hear the epic reel tape of Szell Cleveland doing the Dvorak 8-the opening of the finale. Unattached harmonics bouncing around in Columbia's fake reverb. All that is missing is a strobe light
