| Maurice Andre recording from 2004 Video on this page: sans titre He still has very good accuracy. I heard that his problems around the late 90's were caused by the medication he was on for his heart condition and that after that was fixed he returned to much better health. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Maurice Andre recording from 2004 Oh, oh, oh! It is a shame that this stuff gets out. Suboptimum rhythm, intonation, and at least 2 cracked notes - with none of the pizazz that made MA who he was. I do not need to know "how much is still left". MA was one of the greatest players of all time. This dissappoints me a lot. I am sure this performance was NEVER intended for further dissemination. |

| Re: Maurice Andre recording from 2004 Have you met many trumpeters of that age? I have and he is still much better. Plus if you knew his health problems prior to his move you would realise how remarkable this was. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Maurice Andre recording from 2004 Hi Gordon, this is not my point. MA WAS arguably the greatest trumpet player during his time(for me for sure). His time has been up for at least 15 years. It is admirable that he is getting out and sharing his personality and energy with the current generation. I find it disgusting that amateur videos that only capture the, in comparison, mediocre performance find there way on to the internet. If the master class was available, where we could hear his advice, insight and teaching techniques - great. Preferably with his permission though. Every time somebody says check this out, I do - my mistake. The internet culture also preserves the ugly side. It makes me sad! This is a poor representation of what MA did for us. YouTube is doing us no favors! |

| Re: Maurice Andre recording from 2004 Westview, Commentary... I doubt Mr. Andre has given permission for any of these videos to be posted on YouTube. My impression of youtube is that unless it's a private video, posted by that individual... then it's more like "bootlegging". I'm certain there will come a time when video web distribution will be looked at as closely as free (shared) music distribution. Until then, I sure am enjoying it. I remembered hearing about a performance of Tom Jobim and Frank Sinatra on a TV variety show... so I looked for it.. and there it was. How wonderful to have such access to old footage like that... with just a click. As for Mr. Andre's performance... once that kind of greatness is achieved, there is nothing he could ever do (play) to change it. Fact of life, our bodies get older and we don't perform at the same level. Rogerio Last edited by ROGERIO : 03-09-2007 at 11:41 AM. |

| Re: Maurice Andre recording from 2004 Rogerio You make some good points about once Mr Andre's greatness was achieved, nothing could be done to change it. You are also right about getting older and the fact that we don't perform at the same level. Last edited by westview1900 : 03-09-2007 at 10:59 AM. |
