![]() | Re: Need some solo material for Church Because church music is my primary musical outlet I feel constrained to ask some questions before I can give any valid advice. (1) What church affiliation do you have? (2) Can you transpose into concert pitch with a Bb horn? ()3) Are you going to be asked to do solo or instumental ensemble work or, to accompany the singing for the song service, or, to accompany a choir? OLDLOU>>

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Need some solo material for Church Hi max! Wachet Auf comes to mind--you can play the Vorspiel part (duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh...) and then tack on the Chorale. Telemann Konzert in D, (first movement) works well too. All in all, however, it is still better policy to make friends with some keyboard players!

Transposing is not a problem, Ive been playing for 17 years. Ive been doing solos for the past year with the BrassTrax material, but I am running out of pieces to play. That is my problem. As far as taking music out of the hymnal, I have considered that.

Last Sunday I played a duet with one of my trombonist friends at a monster hymnsing at a mega evangelistic church locally. We did Power In The Blood with 'Arbanesque' variations, such as runs, and multiple tongueing. I have also done The Sons Of God Go Forth To War in a like fashion. These and MANY others work well for evening services and hymnsings, while more docile melodic, ballad type hymns are more in keeping for a morning worship service. One thing that I personally feel is an imperitive is that the congregation must be sufficiently familiar with the hymn tune to be rehearsing the words as you play. I am a firm believer that the musical notes are simply a vehicle for the message of the hymn. Remember, also that you are playing for the praise and glory of your Saviour. OLDLOU>>
