![]() | Need Suggestions for Competition... HEy, I'm entering my youth orchestra's concerto competition, and I need something to play! I've pretty much settled on Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in Eb, but I don't know where I can find a trumpet AND piano part! Does anyone know where I could find that (preferably for a reasonable price)? Thanks so much! |

| New Friend | I would guess that any music store that sells ANY trumpet music would have this piece. If you don't have a music store close, you can try Stanton's music in Columbus OH, they have just about everything and will ship anywhere. Where are you located? that might help, if someone who checks this post lives close and knows of a good place. Good luck on your competition!! |

![]() | Thanks! I live a 1/2 hour from Frederick, MD and Charlestown, WV. I have a couple music stores near me, but their selection is not great for trumpet (mostly guitar and piano). I'll check there, though! Thanks for your help! |

![]() ![]() | WARNING...WARNING...WARNING...WARNING...WARNING... WARNING...WARNING Be careful which edition you buy! You'll want to stay as close to the "urtext" (original) as possible. e.g. the Landon/Tarr edition is based on the urtext; the Canadian Brass version is not!

| Forte User | Hickey's Music has the Tarr edition. I give this edition my strongest recommendation. It includes parts for both Eb and Bb trumpet, several cadenzas and extensive historical notes. You'll use this edition forever.

| New Friend | David Hickman's edition is great. Along with the music for piano, Eb and Bb parts, there is a very thorough background of the work and photos of the original manuscript. It also includes Dave's cadenza. It is also reasonably priced. Visit: www.hickmanmusiceditions.com

![]() | from what you said on your intro page, might be better off doing hummel or something else. on the Bb trumpet has extended playing on top of the staff and a high eb.

This is a very fun piece to go after for a first attempt at a serious concerto.

![]() | Thanks! Thanks. I think I'll consider a different concerto. I've been doing research on the Haydn and I keep seeing "ADVANCED" everywhere. I don't think I'm quite there yet! I've been playing a free (not very good) version I found online and found it to be doable in most places but really tough in others. I'll check out Handel and Hummel, and keep looking into Haydn. Thanks so much for the websites on where to get music! I've not had much luck in finding those sites! --ABCgirl |
