for future reference, how is it exactly you find out about these jobs? do you need to be the union?

It helps, as if you are a union member, you get a monthly copy of the International Musician, which lists all openings in union orchestras. The other thing you can do is keep an eye on these forums. People seem to know right away when something is happening...............
