![]() ![]() | Re: The Northwestern Trumpet Factory No school is perfect for everyone. You could say Julliard when Vacchiano was there was a trumpet factory, but by calling it a factory you're suggesting a cookie cutter product (Miles, Wynton, Phil Smith and Charlie Schlueter all came out of this studio). NU has had success of late, but so have a lot of schools. 2 majors wins in the last year don't mean that going to NU is the only way to succeed as an orchestral trumpet player.

![]() | Re: The Northwestern Trumpet Factory I am happy to see people around me being successful. It is especially great to see people my age getting in there and rocking the audition sciene. (Way to go Ethan!) I try to remember that life isn't always about who comes out on top. We all get an opportunity to play and make music every day- its an awesome blessing. And if you get to do that and get paid for it...all the more awesome. If someone gets a big break...pat 'em on the back, for they deserve it. Cheers, Chris |

I am sure that they understand or have a grasp of the basic "Fundamentals" of trumpet playing. The concept is not knew it just takes people winning jobs for people to believe in it. Mr Arban, Mr Mager, Mr Lafosse, Mr Herseth all have a high standard and understanding of Basic fundamentals. " There are many different ways to play trumpet some better than others." | |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The Northwestern Trumpet Factory What about the NU trumpet players we don't hear about. Having 2 players in the NYP is incredible in such a short amount of time but NU turns out a good amount of students. How about the grads who are teaching are freelancing and don't have a full time gig. How do they like that $40,000 tuition now when when each month they get a student loan bill and some soccer mom is balking at $20 for a 1/2 hour lesson?

![]() ![]() | Re: The Northwestern Trumpet Factory tataka- Many of the ones who don't get jobs in the NYP cash in on their expensive diplomas by getting paid to go to grad school. Others win jobs in military bands. Some prefer to go out and teach while they continue to prepare for auditions. I have many friends from Interlochen who went there for several instruments and while many of them gripe about their loans, NONE are sorry they went to Northwestern. -Jimi

I think Northwestern's DMA program is free. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. -Jimi
