Omaha Audition - Congrats!

Hey All,

Some of you may remember my rant from the Boise audition where I brought that horribly run audition to light. Well, I just finished an audition with the Omaha symphony and I wanted to give a kudos to the personnel manager and his staff for running a very smooth and professional audition. It was very well done!

And, congrats to whoever ends up winning the thing.

HAH!! Scott, I just looked at your website...I met you just a couple of hours ago at Thompson's!! Small world.

Scott's right...the audition was ran INCREDIBLY WELL and INCREDIBLY PROFESSIONAL. Kudos to the Omaha guys!

I, like my friend Scott, did not win. Anyone know who did?

Its nice to hear about well run auditions. I think you will find most of the major orchestras do it well. Its the smaller groups that sometimes mess things up. On top of asking for ridiculous rep.

Hey guys,

What did they have you play in the first round? I was thinking about taking the audition, but couldn't get the entire list worked up in time. I guess I'm just curious to see if they asked the ones I knew...

Hey Lou! Wow, small world indeed! That whole trip was about "the small world". I made so many strange and cool connections there. It's good to connect a name to face here. :)

And to Jimi, here was the first round:

1. Pictures
2. Pines - 1st trumpet part (most of the first two pages)
3. Petrouchka
4. Brahms Academic Festival Overture
5. Bach B Minor Mass: Credo

They only asked for the first three however...

Re: Omaha Audition - Congrats!

Agreed entirely. Having taken a fair amount of auditions, this was by far the most well run, and welcoming audition I have ever experienced. To get a phone call from the Personnel Manager leaving his cell phone number in case there are any problems or questions is a rare thing. Maybe it's because it's not a "major" orchestra, or maybe the audition was smaller than most, but whatever the reason, it was an incredibly friendly and supportive scene. Thanks to Omaha, and congrats to the winner.
