| OUCH! I received a phone call out of the blue last year from Roy Hempley asking if I knew anything about one of the missing CSO Bach trumpets (one of the two that wasn’t selected by the section back in the 1950s), and as he continued talking I realized that I knew exactly who he needed to contact (who knows how he got my number at work and that I would be the link for him to find the missing horn). Apparently he purchased it and had it restored. Talk about a dramatic transformation! BEFORE: ![]() ![]() AFTER: ![]() The whole story is found at the Bachology website and is quite an interesting read! |

| I once dropped a bookcase on my C trumpet (a Bach). It looked similar to the before picture. Bell crushed, completely separated from the rest of the horn, three pieces altogether. I put it in a paper bag and took it to Wayne Tanabe at the Brass Bow. I sort of dumped the pieces out on the counter and the guy behind the counter just started to laugh, as if to say, yeah, right, who are you trying to kid? Wayne came out of the back, looked at it for a minute and said, "When do you want it?" It was done in a week, he charged me $180 and it played after he fixed it better than it did before. He's a genius. Ever after to him I've been The Guy Who Dropped a Bookcase On His C Trumpet. Michael McLaughlin "Military justice is to justice what military music is to music." Groucho Marx |
