Paolo Longinotti Everyone knows his etude book. But did you know that he was principal in the Suisse Romande Ochestra from 1939 till his death at age 53 in January of 1953. That means he is on all of the recordings of Ernest Ansermet until his death Recommended is Haydn Con Martin Con for 7 Winds Dukas Fanfare From La Peri Debussy Martyrdom of St Sebastian Beethoven Sym # 5 Soldier's Tale And with Maag Posthorn Serenade With Munchinger and the Stuttgart Chamber orchestra Bran # 2 Bach Cantata # 51 As much as I like Glantz and Vacchiano, I consider Longinotti the superior orchestral player. He is that good. And his section mates wre superb too. Ansermet was the greatest expert on wind playing and was a trumpeter as well as a clarinetist and violinist Abbedd

Abbedd, You might enjoy a folder that I developed on the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Trumpet Section at the TH website. There is a fantastic article on Longinotti in the Brass Bulletin magazine that I reference in that folder. His dates of tenure as Principal were from 1949 to 1963.

In reviewing information that I received from the OSR from Jean-Pierre Surget, Longinotti was in the section for four years from 1938 to 1942 when Bodet was the Principal trumpet. Hope this helps. 18/19 : Concone - Beauthier 19/20 : Concone - Lipke - Vignoli 20/21 : Wiltscheck - Nauber 21/22 : Dubois - Nauber 22/27 : Dubois - Nauber - Bodet 27/29 : Dubois 29/30 : Bodet Francis 30/38 : Bodet - Bindschedler 38/42 : Bodet - Longinotti - Bindschelder - Weber Félix 42/43 : Bodet - Bernard - Bindschelder - Weber 43/44 : Bodet - Bindschelder - Weber - Paychere Henri

Derek Thanks for the great info. In the early 80s I wrote to the SRO asking about principals and they told me they had no idea. It looks like they did not have a permanent replacement for Longinotti until 1964. Cuvit did the Hummel and L. Mozart with Ansermet in 1968 on Record For NBC check out my page here http://home.earthlink.net/~abbedd/nbc.htm looks like Glickstein is a liar javascript:emoticon(' Bleah
