Pat Harbison in Bemidji

I'd like to thank Pat Harbison, Professor of Jazz Studies at Indiana University, and terrific jazz trumpeter (and TM member) for his appearance in Bemidji, MN. Pat performed a concert and judged the Northlands Trumpet Competition at Bemidji State University on March 3, 2006. In the afternoon, he also presented a clinic for the contestants and university students.

Pat's great personality, both on the horn and off, came through for the
entire day. His clinic was full of useful tips for any level of player, and
his performance had the audience enthralled for the entire evening. His
endearing stage presence, beautiful sound, and unique and musical ideas kept the audience entertained and the concert was followed by an instant standing ovation.

For the Northlands Trumpet Competition the number of contestants was a bit low due to an intense blizzard in the area. But six competitors made for a fun morning of trumpet solos performed by some very talented students.

Competitors included:
Matt Long, Fargo, ND (first place)
Loren Endorf, Forest Lake, MN (second place)
Brent Chaney, East Grand Forks, MN (third place)
Bob Opgrand, Fargo, ND
Cory Leppanen, Grand Rapids, MN
Hank Fiskevold, Detroit Lakes, MN

Next year's guest artist for the event will be Wayne Bergeron on March 1, 2008.
