Petite Piece Concertante-Guilliame Balay

My solo this year for the middle school solo and ensemble is Petite Piece Concertante by Guilliame Balay. I picked this song because i was supposed to get my braces taken off a week before contest, and it is showy, but in an easy range. However, i'm keeping my braces on until afterwards and now i just wanna know, what are your views on this song? I personally love it and love playing it. But what do you think?

It's one of my favorites for my students!
Good luck on your performance, and have fun playing it.

Re: Petite Piece Concertante-Guilliame Balay

I played it years ago, but I remember the fun I had performing it. I also used it for a college audition because I was going through an embouchure change like you will be after the braces.

I still have a copy. Maybe I'll dig it out and have fun with it again.

Enjoy making music with it. Good luck.

Re: Petite Piece Concertante-Guilliame Balay

Haha. Yeah, it's a great song. I'm playing it mostly because my range at the time i picked the solo was very bad, and the range on that song is very easy. However, now my range is better, but, that allows me to focus more on the technical stuff.
=D

Re: Petite Piece Concertante-Guilliame Balay

I am putting my adjudicators hat on here for a moment. What I look for the most when I am judging are tone quality (there is a reason why that is the first item listed on the score sheets at least in Wisconsin and Minnesota), and the details. things like dynamics, following the instructions, style, clean technical playing. When a person comes in for Solo Festival I am not listening for notes and rhythm, those had damn well better be there before they walk in the door, I expect that (now if they don't have that under control...)
