 | Principal Trumpet Player Photos I know that it was very hard to see individual details in my Eclipse Contest entry (Back to School), so I wanted to provide at least one “grouping” of Principal Trumpet players that are part of the big trumpet that I built for my project. Here’s a photo history of all of the principal trumpet players in the Boston Symphony Orchestra for the last 109 years! Now that the contest is over, it seemed like I should group them a little differently so everyone could see them. Enjoy!

Would it be hard to put photos next to the names of trumpet sections -- that compendious work you undertook on the principals and trumpet sections of orchestras? Ghitalla looks so young I would not have recognized him. First time I've seen a photo of Mager and I did not know of Heim and Kloepfel. |

| Re: Principal Trumpet Player Photos Richard and Felix, Glad you like the photos! I have also added to my first post to bring in the information for the BSO from the project that I did on TH. Eventually it’s my plan to somehow put all of this information on the ITG website with photos, names, bios, etc. A little piece at a time… If anyone has pictures of the first four trumpet players in the BSO, I would love to have a copy. I should probably contact the BSO Archives, they might have what I’m looking for, or even Doug Yeo (I know he wrote a great article for the ITG Journal with lots of photos).

| Re: Principal Trumpet Player Photos I believe when Zubin Mehta was the conductor with the LA Philharmonic he had a strong relationship with the Israel Philharmonic. Mehta would talk with Thomas Stevens about possible candidates that would be a good fit for the Israel position and they would audition and ultimately be selected for the job. After several years of experience with the IPO, many of these players auditioned and won great jobs back in the United States. There were very few Principal players in the ISO that were not from the US, so I’m sure eventually they just wanted to return home.

Wow! Great catch. I thought this list was completely finished (I had input from the IPO Archives and updates from Lorraine Cohen). When I checked the bio for Daniel Mendelow it's very clear that he should be on this list. I'll have to send a message to him to try and verify his dates of tenure.
