Recommended Listening

Tom, I was really hoping to get some recommendations to add to my library to assist with my "trumpet ears". I have tons of jazz and commercial examples and would like to add examples of good orchestral playing and works for trumpet.

many thanks,

Kent

William Babcock (Frank Kaderabek)
Vincent Cichowicz

The one above is a stereo recording. There's SACD 3 channel says a reviewer.

Recordings date from 1957 to 1959.

Re: Recommended Listening

All the RCA Living Stereo Recordings are great. I also have Dvorak New World Symphony, and my favorite Scheherazade (sp).

Re: Recommended Listening

The RCA Living Stereo recordings were audiophile recordings before the term was even coined. They really paid attention to the perormance AND sound quality!

Now that Tom has replied, I will suggest the Musical Heritage Society web site. I have a few of the Andre' albums. There are plenty of albums from which to choose.
Musical Heritage Society Classical Record Collection

There is also a Canadian Musical Heritage Society.

Re: Recommended Listening

I recommend the NBC Symphony with Toscaini recordings on the RCA Victor Label. The trumpet section included Harry Glantz, Frank Falcone, and Raymond Crisara (my teacher). Mr. Crisara always said that Harry Glantz was his ideal 1st tpt. My favorite recordings with NBC are the complete set Beethoven symphonies, and anything Wagner.

Re: Recommended Listening

Perhaps something a little different is the set of CDs on Naxos by Niklas Eklund called 'The Art of Baroque Trumpet'. It shows trumpet (this time natural trumpet) in a completely different light and, regardless, the playing is absolutely masterful and the music is wonderful.

I think my current favourite orchestral CD is Strauss's 'Alpine Symphony' by MSO. Maurice Andre has re-released a lot of stuff on a couple of boxed sets on EMI.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Trevor
