Re: Sleepless in Seattle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I just read "orchestral terrorism" WOW. I wonder how Dave Gordon likes it there. I heard he was in the runnings for the LSO job.

Re: Sleepless in Seattle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's at the tail end.....

"Mr. Thulean, the former board member, longtime music director of the Spokane Symphony and a 16-year veteran administrator at the League of American Orchestras, said that he was baffled by the reports of vandalism, and that he found it unimaginable that musicians would be responsible. 'It’s really kind of sick,' he said. Resentment among musicians born of long-running music directorships was not unusual, he added, but the 'open turmoil' in Seattle was unique."

Don hired me for my first job in Spokane, (and gave me tenure) just after the orchestra had leveled the same sorts of musical complaints. It never got that personal, but Thulean had built an orchestra that he could no longer lead. We got Gunther Schuller for a year. Wow!

It is hard to imagine a violinist suffering from extreme anxiety while one of the herd, however.

It will be interesting to see how things play out.

Is this the orchestra that doesn't have a musicians union?
