| Mezzo Piano User | Tchaikovsky We read though Tchik 6 today in Symphony rehersal and my director talked alitle about Tchaikovskys death, the years leading up to his death, and how he expressed himself though his symphonies. I just got so interested in this subject that now I want to learn more about it. Does anyone know of any books out there about his life, music, and period of history and what was going on in the world as he was writing his music? I just find it interesting to imagin everything that went into his music and see kind of what he was thinking.

| Piano User | Exactly. I know that Grove put out separate volumes for a number of their biographical entries that read like short books. I can't imagine there isn't one with Tchaikovsky. Perhaps "Russian Masters Vol. 1."

| New Friend | Re: Tchaikovsky The book by David Brown would be a great start for you :) And I must admit after playing his 5th symphony, I had exactly the same urge to find out more like you :) It really is facinating, but there are many different arguments and mystery about his death etc. so read around before you decide what you believe :) |
