Does anyone know what these were transcribed from? It sounds like an organ piece but I am not sure.

Re: Telemann Heroic Marches

The originals („Musique héroique ou XII Marches“ TWV 50: 31– 42 (1728)) were composed for 2 melody instruments in C and basso continuo. Telemann published these himself and his official catalogue entry back then read:
“Helden-Music, oder 12 neue musicalische marches, auf zween Hautbois oder Violinen etc. gerichtet, deren 6 mit einer Trompete und 3 mit 2 Waldhörnern begleitet werden können, alle aber auch auf dem Claviere allein zu spielen sind.”
Heroes-Music, or 12 new musical marches, arranged for two Oboes or Violins, etc. from which 6 with a trumpet and 3 with 2 horns can be accompanied, they also can all be played on by a keyboard solo.

The french titles were given to increase their appeal to the "educated" class. It worked and this suite of 12 tunes sold well. Shortly after their introduction, they were arranged for all sorts of ensembles (not by Telemann though).

Re: Telemann Heroic Marches

I have the international version, edited by Voisin I think, that includes a trumpet part for B-flat, in the key of E major. I wish they had just written it for D trumpet.... These are great for church services. Very easy keyboard part. Nothing too tricky in the solo part.

Re: Telemann Heroic Marches

Don't forget to offer the pieces up to the bride the next time you are planning a wedding. They are suprizingly popular and a nice change from the "old warhorses"
