![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Telemann Trumpet Concerto in D major Umm, serious rhythm issues Umm, serious breathing issues Umm, serious musical issues Don't get me wrong, TM is not reserved only for the finest players and performances, but if you ask for a comment, you will get an honest one. Publishing something long before it is ready is not good. What would I do differently? 1) practice with a metronome - this does not kill musicality, it helps us build a natural pulse. That pulse would serve this work especially well. The steady 8th notes in the accompaniment are significant. Your quarters, 8ths and 16ths are very erratic. The natural pulse in a 4/4 bar is on 1 and 3 - almost NEVER on pickup notes. 2) study baroque embellishment, there is generally accepted practice (on the beat - not before, for instance) 3) Follow the ink. Believe me, Telemann knew what he was doing 4) I would more positively tongue. la-la-la doesn't have much to do with baroque trumpet music. We are talking about the king of musical instruments here! 5) The long notes that you shorten sound like you are running out of air, to perform this piece, your breath support needs to be in order. Hold those long notes out. A quick breath is allowed. The tone always has to sound supported. 6) I teach never to present ones playing with an apology. "I don't have a pic so I had to play on a Bb". You didn't HAVE to play it. You WANTED to play it. A better presentation would have been: I don't have a pic so I played it on a Bb. There is a big difference. There is nothing wrong with practicing things like this - in any playable key. My students have to work pieces out before making them public. Yes, this is a tough critique. Your performance was not prepared. Only YOU can change that. You have some chops, range is not a problem, the high notes came out clearly. There is much more to music than just hitting all the notes. |

| Piano User | Re: Telemann Trumpet Concerto in D major The first movement of Telemann IMHO is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written for the natural trumpet. It leaves a lot of room for great phrasing. You also really need good breath control. Check this clip out: YouTube - Rubén Simeó, trompeta. 1º Telemann Concurso M. Andre. Although I think he sounds fantastic, (better than I will ever be able to play) there are a few places where I personally wish he had maintained the phrase a bit longer. |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Telemann Trumpet Concerto in D major I was talking about Ruben Simea - the video that was posted in the post above mine... He is a 14 year old (maybe 15 now) prodigy from Spain. He can play all the famous concertos and is pretty much a freak of nature. It will be interesting to see this kid grow - his Technique and musicianship are incredible now - but when he matures as a person - it will be even more interesting to hear him. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Telemann Trumpet Concerto in D major The quality of any performance has nothing to do with age, it is only that which comes out of the bell. It is very important that we play everything that we can get out hands on. It is equally important to be proud of what we have accomplished. True valid pride should be based on quality preparation. When young players have a realistic picture of their capabilities, they can judge what should be presented in an open forum. I am really interested in what is posted here, but not interested in feeding any ego where it is not warranted. The WORST thing that can happen is to qualify quality based on age. I am sure that Btnbrass has other pieces that are well prepared by any standard. They would have been a more suitable choice for publication! TM is not my site, but I would hate to see an invasion of posts: Richter Concerto check this out, Tomasi check this out................. all unprepaired and comprimised musically, rhythmically and technically. A certain amount of respect for the composer can be expected in my humble opinion. I would like to see players like Btnbrass get a real perspective of what is musically sound and sense the joy that we all have after a job well done! |

| Re: Telemann Trumpet Concerto in D major i would say ruben is good for any age. him being 14 just means has more time to get even better. when my trumpet prof was overseas last she saw him perform and was amazed. that was the first i heard of him. as far as posting a piece that isnt prepared, i think perhaps some people dont realize something is not ready until someone actually lets them know. good advice rowuk. nice to be able to get a solid critique. happy trumpeting |
