Transpostion Question

I have not had to transpose in a long time and I am just drawing a blank as I used to be able to do this in my sleep. I am playing two pieces, the first is Slavischer Marsch which is from Tromba in B and the other piece is a Beethoven part for Trumpet in Es. For the Tromba in B, isn't that just Bb trumpet? For the Trumpet in Es, is that for trumpet in E which means I would need to read the notes up a Major third? Thank you again for the help and I really need to brush up on this again..lol.

Re: Transpostion Question

Yes tromba in B is just Bb trumpet. Trumpet in Es would be Eb trumpet. So if you are playing on C trumpet you go up a minor third.

Re: Transpostion Question

I've created a simple transposition grid that allows you to see:

1) Which key a transposed instrument needs to play in for a given concert key
2) Given the key of the transposed instrument, what the concert key is

Check it out at:

Re: Transpostion Question

I hate transposing 20th century music with all its accidentals! I like transposing keys so much better!
