Trpt/Organ CD

Hi TM'er's-

I'm in the process of planning a new solo trumpet/organ CD with a friend of mine who is a very talented organist. What are some pieces that you would most like to hear on a trpt/organ CD? I know the standard Prayer of St. Gregory and other such pieces, but I'm looking for something different. I'm thinking Hovhaness Sonata for trumpet and organ. Maybe the Svoboda Duo Concerto?

Thanks!

Yeah, that's a good idea. I have a copy in my studio but haven't played it for a long time. Thanks!

Pea,

The organ is such a site specific instrument. Consider (organ) registration options and the acoustic of the space before deciding what to play.

My old trumpet teacher recorded the Honegger Intrada with organ, and it was pretty amazing. That piece works VERY well with organ!!

I've done the Hovhaness Sonata before, and it's a great piece...there's so much you can do with it!

Some other possibilities:
Leonard Bernstein - Simple Song
Jean Langlais - Piece pour Trompette
Vincent Persichetti - The Hollow Men (works well with organ)
Daniel Pinkham - Trumpet Voluntary
GP Telemann - Airs for Trumpet and Organ
Torelli - Any of the Sinfonias work great
Viviani - Sonata Prima and Sonata Seconda

Also, the Ravel - Piece en forme de Habanera is also very cool with organ.

Just some thoughts! I want to buy a copy when you record it!

Louie

Hi Louie!

Thanks for the suggestions. Balio plays Honegger with organ and you're right, it's great! I might consider putting that on there.

I'll send you a copy when it's finished.

Brent

P.S. Still loving the horn?

Johntpt is on a distinguished road
Tony Plog wrote a nice piece for Trumpet and Organ called something like 4 Sketches based on Edvard Munch. The Bernhard Krol Magnificat Variations works very nicely with organ, better than with piano, in my opinion. The same can be said for the Tomasi Salve Regina Variations.

Once I did an organ recital with the Holy Week in Cuzco on it. My organist buddy thought the central section sounded better on piano, so he wheeled a piano in next to the organ and switched back and forth! Also, that piece is not easy to program on a recital.
