Trumpet Concertino

Just posted on www.sibeliusmusic.com Find, share and publish music scores a great new piece for Intermediate players which you or your students might enjoy. It's scored for Trumpet and String Orchestra, in 2 movements and about 12 minutes long. !st movement is a Romance and the 2nd is a Vivaldi style romp in Rondo form. The piece doesn't go above a top 'A', but has some quirky passages which may prove a challenge. Look out for the final few bars which end the piece in a flourish.
The playback sound isn't brilliant, but try and imagine what the real instruments would sound like.
There's a whole bunch of other trumpet stuff on there too ranging from Concertos to simple student pieces. Hope you find something interesting
Let me know what you think of it.
Best wishes
Steve Halsey
PS
Just bought a new trumpet. 15 year old Smith Watkins, re plated and in mint condition. Great for playing all the new music on!

Re: Trumpet Concertino

Hi Steve -

I tried to listen, but I couldn't get the sounds to play. I tried to install scorch a couple of times - and tried changing the midi output device, all to no avail. Any suggestions?

Re: Trumpet Concertino

Hi Jim
Thanks for trying. I wondered if there was a problem with some of the playback. If you've time - go back onto the www.sibeliusmusic.com-Find,share and publish. Punch in Halsey in search and try no 22. There are 3 versions listed = piano, Brassband and orchestra. I'm certainly getting playback with Orchestra. If not there's some other stuff on there which you mught be interested in --Mutual Hero, Peludium, or my new little Concertino.

Re: Trumpet Concertino

OK, I'm stumped. I have the same problem as Jim. I tried the link, above, and it is a dead end. I tried a couple of variations on the link text (it doesn't look like a valid link structure) but could only go to the regular sibeliusmusic home page. I tried a number of the scores listed there and none of them seem to play on my computer (the blue line moves but no sound results).

Re: Trumpet Concertino

Sorry Guys! I'm Ok with the composing, but not good on the techy side. Hope it's something simple like volume perhaps or playback device.I'll try downloading them again, but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas or can get them to play, please let us know
Late response cos just got back from Paris!
By the way. Big gig this week. Playing one of my Fanfares for a Royal visit to Newcastle later in the week! No pressure then!!!
Best wishes

Re: Trumpet Concertino

Steve,
Before you dive into the "techy" thing too far, here is an additional insight. I have a second computer that my wife uses. She happened to have Internet Explorer open (I use Firefox) so I decided to try Sibeliusmusic there. I installed Scorch and it worked. So, I thought the issue might be Firefox vs IE. I came back to my computer and opened IE and installed Scorch on it. There is still no sound. So, my initial conclusion, without spending a lot of time on it, is that there is some incompatibility between Scorch and my hardware because it seems to work fine on the other computer. I have a laptop that I will try just to see if I can confirm one way or the other. I will let you know when I have more info on this.

While I was on the other computer, I tried a couple of your compositions. They are quite good. I will listen to more and decide on a few to buy so I can try them out with a brass quintet that I may have a chance to join (if I realllly increase my skill level soon). These are definitely not beginner pieces.

Re: Trumpet Concertino

That's great news. Anymore info would be very helpful. I've certainly played the pieces from different computers.
I'm glad you like the pieces. There are a range of things on there from moderately easy to professional standard, but I hope you can find something you like.
Keep me posted.
Best wishes
Steve
