| Re: Brian Lynch - whoaaa! He's also a super nice guy. I emailed him when he was in Seattle a couple years ago and ask for a lesson, and we spent about 2 1/2 hours in my studio playing and talking trumpet. He left me with some great ideas and inspiration. One of the things he said that has had a lasting impression on me is that the work we do, how we earn our money, is in the practice room. The gigs are the icing on the cake, but it's the time we put in perfecting our craft that is our job, and if you can't find some way to enjoy that part of it you should find something else to do. If you get a chance to hang with Brian, do it! |

| Re: Brian Lynch - whoaaa! Love Brian. I wrote an arrangement of Guajira DuBois that my kiddies played (you heard that, Nick) and when I e-mailed him he sent me a score to The Palmieri Effect which I'm working on now. A few weeks ago I went to Milwaukee and met Brian when he was doing a master class at the Milwaukee Conservatory (his alma mater) with some high school kids. He was very effective, patient and, well, kind. We got to talk some, he teaches a former student of mine at NYU. A nice hang. He was scheduled to come to Chicago to play at Hot House which unfortunately went belly up. Terrfic trumpet player, and like all great players I have met he's an eternal student. Michael McLaughlin |
