Cecil Bridgewater

Cecil appeared at Sista's last Sunday with a trio. Talk about busting chops....... There is nothing lonelier than not having another horn to fall back on.

He played Grrrrrreat.

Anything you find that he did with Max Roach is quality.

I also really love his work on "Mel Lewis and Friends". That one is hard to find on CD, but it is fabulous. In addition to Cecil it features Freddie Hubbard and the some of the best pre-neck injury playing by Mike Brecker. Cecil doesn't get to play as much as Freddie, but what he does blow is really top drawer.

I have some college recordings of him. He was writing some pretty cool stuff even as early as that (arrangements of Moontrane, stuff like that).
