Cinderella the musical

Hey,

So I'm going to be playing the lead book on this musical in a couple of weeks and was wondering from those of you who have played this show what horns I should bring to the first rehearsal? I ask because I won't see the book until I get to the rehearsal. I have at my disposal Bb, C, Picc and I could borrow a flugel.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Matt

Re: Cinderella the musical

Which version are you doing? I conducted the Rodgers & Hammerstein version three years ago...the trumpets all played Bb's...I don't recall any points in the score where anything else is needed. Bring a cup and straight mute.

Re: Cinderella the musical

that's the thing. I don't know anything about it and won't learn anything new until rehearsals start. I'd really like to not have to drag all of my horns to this thing. That would be like 3 cases and a mute bag, so just to cover my bases maybe bring Bb, picc and mutes and leave the C and flugel at home?

Generally anything you play on a c you can play on the Bb, and bringing the piccolo just in case isn't a bad idea.
But the mutes. Bring them. And a lot. (I don't know the show, but conductors always are annoyed when you don't have the mutes)

Re: Cinderella the musical

Yeah, I hear you about the mutes! This isn't the first musical I've ever played so I kind of know what to expect. But, it's still nice to have some idea of what to expect.

Yeah, I've played it and you only need a Bb and straight, harmon, and cup mute.

Re: Cinderella the musical

Jeff, are you referring to the Rogers and Hammerstein version? If so, what's the book like - is it good music with interesting parts like other R&H musicals? I'm curious because the youth theatre our daughter performs at is doing this soon. My daughter's not in the show (if she were I'd play in a heartbeat) but they will be asking for volunteer players, and if it's a good show...

Thanks.

Where are you playing? When is the show performed? I want to see and hear the show.

You can PM me if you don't want to tell everybody.

Re: Cinderella the musical

Well the musical is being performed in Spring Grove, MN. It's a community performance at a place called Ye Olde Opera House. I got to see the place last night for the first time and it's really kind of neat, it's just a barn that's been sort of converted. Anyway the performance dates are 7/16 - 7/20 as far as I know. I haven't been given all of the specifics yet. If you want more info go to www.yeoldeoperahouse.org - Ye Olde Opera HouseÂÂ*. If you or anyone else end up coming stop and say hi, just ask any of the musicians for Matt.

Re: Cinderella the musical

I am pretty sure I"ll be in Cedar Rapids the 15th. I'll see where your gig is and maybe make the trip north.

It is crazy but I could go to "In to the Woods" in Kirksville, Mo, then to Cedar Rapids for a banquet, then up to your gig. I haven't been to Decorah in years. That might be a good place to hang out for an evening.
I'll see what I can do.

I think they gave you the music a little late. They have had it for 6-7 weeks. Most musicals provide the score for 8 weeks.
