| Clifford Brown with Strings. Clifford Brown with strings -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- everyone has their copy of this CD, right? Logged Jeroen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Best recording of a jazz (trumpet-) player with strings ever! Clifford is my alltime favourite anyway (for jazz), but with the strings backing him, he's magical. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who wrote the string arrangments? Neal Hefti He conducted as well, probably contracted the date. Max Roach, Drums Richie Powell, Piano George Morrow, Bass Barry Galbraith, Guitar This was Clifford Brown's working rhythm section with Barry Galbraith added. On the LP you can see about nine strings. It also appears to be a Besson trumpet Clfford Brown is playing. Third valve ring is underneath the third valve slide, lock is on top. Water keys on the tuning slide and third valve slide. Looks like a Bach mouthpiece although that's a bit tougher to see for sure. Recorded January 18,19,20, 1955. Here's how to play ballads. 1. Yesterdays 2. Laura 3. What's New 4. Blue Moon 5. Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man 6. Embraceable You Side Two 1. Willow Weep For Me 2. Memories of You 3. Smoke Gets In your Eyes 4. Portrait Of Jenny 5. Where Or When 6. Stardust Neal Hefti was a trumpet player, formerly with Woody. Brownie evidently read everything down with only a couple of clams. This is a truly historic recording. Dave Bacon -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- jamesfrmphilly -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i heard he played a Blessing super artist. did they also have the ring under slung? Logged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm pretty sure this is a Besson. I've heard the same thing about the Blessing, but I've also heard he played a Besson. He could have had a couple of horns you know. He could have played a Sears and sounded the same!! |

| Nice to hear him do his "trademark" with opening up the sound on that small 10.5C mouthpiece. You know what I mean when you hear him play. By the way, can you believe how fat his sound is. On a 10.5C mouthpiece. Gotta love him! Jeroen. |
