Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Tribute Band

Does anyone know who is currently playing lead with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Tribute Band led by Slide Hampton? I heard them last night in Toronto and did not catch the name of the lead player, but he was really impressive. The rest of the section was fantastic, too - Roy Hargrove, Claudio Roditi, Greg Gisbert.

The lead player is Frank Greene.

Frank currently lives in New York and is playing 'The Producers'. He also has been playing on Clark Terry's and Bob Mintzer's Big Bands. I think that he is, now that the Vanguard shakeup is over, playing on Monday nights with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

He's a fabulous trumpet player and a great guy.

Frank went to North Texas and has played with Maynard's band (where we roomed together), Woody's band, Disney World Band, and tons of cruise ships.

I just saw the band at Ravinia a couple of weeks ago. What a pleasure to hear. And, of course, the trumpet section sounded terrific.

Frank can be seen playing with Bob Mintzer's band at the New Trier High School web site, too.
