| Pianissimo User | Giant Steps HI Guys, I dont post on this forum a whole lot, but many of you are also friends from the trumpet herald. Anyways, a good friend of mine and myself have been on a quest to get our hands on as many trumpet playing recordings of "Giant Steps" as possible. Here is what I have thus far: Freddie Hubbard "Dear John" from Bolivia and a Bootleg of him live in Europe. John Swana and Joe Magnarelli off of there joint recording that they called "Giants" Tom Harrell playing it from the LP with Paul Robertson "old friends" And My Favorite is a recording someone got at and Aebersold camp with just Tom Harrell playing it with piano accomp. If anyone has any suggestions, wants to trade, or has any rare bootlegs of someone really "smokin" over the changes please get in touch with me. Thanks, Keep Swingin...WVtrumpet |

![]() | The best version I have is Rahsaan Roland Kirk from the Village Vanguard in about 1974. Even Coltrane would have to give him props. The funny thing is after recording it, Coltrane never performed it live. Michael McLaughlin Litigation: A machine which you go into as a pig and come out of as a sausage. Ambrose Bierce

![]() | A intresting recording of Giant steps is the "Dave Murray Octet plays trane" on the justin time label. Ravi Best and Rasul Siddik are the trumpet players. Lots of crazy ensemble playing. PT
