Giant Steps

HI Guys,

I dont post on this forum a whole lot, but many of you are also friends from the trumpet herald. Anyways, a good friend of mine and myself have been on a quest to get our hands on as many trumpet playing recordings of "Giant Steps" as possible. Here is what I have thus far:

Freddie Hubbard "Dear John" from Bolivia and a Bootleg of him live in Europe.
John Swana and Joe Magnarelli off of there joint recording that they called "Giants"
Tom Harrell playing it from the LP with Paul Robertson "old friends"
And My Favorite is a recording someone got at and Aebersold camp with just Tom Harrell playing it with piano accomp. If anyone has any suggestions, wants to trade, or has any rare bootlegs of someone really "smokin" over the changes please get in touch with me. Thanks, Keep Swingin...WVtrumpet

The best version I have is Rahsaan Roland Kirk from the Village Vanguard in about 1974. Even Coltrane would have to give him props.
The funny thing is after recording it, Coltrane never performed it live.

Have you run across Ingrid Jensen's recording of "Dear John"? It's on the album "Higher Grounds" on Enja.

Arturo sandoval has a tune that uses the changes to Giant Steps on his album Arturo sandoval and the latin train.

I would love to hear the Tom Harrell Aebersold bootleg.

A intresting recording of Giant steps is the "Dave Murray Octet plays trane" on the justin time label. Ravi Best and Rasul Siddik are the trumpet players. Lots of crazy ensemble playing.

Oh yea. How could I forget. Tim Hagans playing Giant steps on Maria Schneider's "coming about" CD is burning.

Actually, he does a recording of Giant Steps on "Dream Come True." This isn't exactly what you're looking for but this video clip is a big band version of Giant Steps with a very nice solo by Vinnie Cutro.

If you go to my ACB site (see my signature) on the "soundclips" section I have a sampler where I play on Giant Steps (try to at least )

It's 8 minutes into the clip.

Best,
