Great Swing with Artie Shaw

Pretty good swing video.

My mentor, Chuck Peterson is sitting far left in trumpet section. Closest to the camera when they show trumpets.

Non Stop Flight is a good tune and Shaw standard.

(If he put much more hand vibrato on that I think his fingers would slip off the buttons!)

Artie Shaw had a special "silvery" sound, never achieved by anybody else. A great player! His style was instantly recognizable. When he quit, he quit for good. He said he never again took his clarinet out of its case. I saw him at the Blue Note in NY when another clarinettist from New England (forget his name) was leading a tour w/the AS band. Artie would show up and talk a little before they played and I got to talk to him "upstairs".
Check out his autobiography, "The Trouble with Cinderella". It's a good read.
