| New Friend | Hear Washington All-State Here is a recording of the 2006 Washington All-State band playing Duke Ellington's "Rockin' In Rhythm". Like it? Let me know and I'll post some of the other five tunes we played that night. http://www.dailymotion.com/birks1208/video/125023

| New Friend | Thanks! High school jazz in the puget sound area has gotten extremely competative in the last 15 years or so, this is the result. ![]() ![]() | Sounds great! Ellington is like Beethoven, Mozart or any other great composer, the music is so good that you just want to play 200% better than you possibly can because the music is just so good... -Jimi

| Pianissimo User | Sequim is next to Port Angeles, on the peninsula. It was alright when I was there. We had a big band, but nothing really remarkable about it. Our school is too far away from civilization to be like Roosevelt or Garfield. I was in the all-state band in 1998 and 2000.

| Pianissimo User | I played rockin' in rhythm my first year of all state... you guys deffitnityly got more liberty with it then we did... when asked if we could play our own solos the director said " you can't improve upon perfection, no!" it also sounds like you guys had a better sound engineer then ours... I'll never forget the director making us do a 7 or 10 hours of rehersal the day of the concert.... we were so worn out by concert time!!

| New Friend | I know what you mean about those solos, it's expected to memorize the original before making it your own when you're dealing with something as hallowed as one of Ellington's greatest creations. The rehearsals are killer! We had quite a rehearsal the day of as well.
