Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (Albums)

In the last seven days I have "scored" (in antique stores) the following TJB albums (all in terrific condition):

South of the Border............................$1.00
Going Places.......................................$2.00
Whipped Cream and Other Delights...$4.00
SRO............................................... ......$1.00
The Beat of the Brass.........................$1.00
Christmas Album.................................$5.00

So, I guess I'm still looking for "Lonely Bull", "Volume 2", "Rise", and maybe the soundtrack to "Casino Royale".

Any others I missed??? Your help is appreciated. Now I'm going to have to get a turntable to play them.

Hi skip,

I have the A&M site "bookmarked", but I totally forgot about the discography. Thanks for refreshing my memory.

All the best.

Still have my original purchases "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" as well as "Casino Royale". Sure brings back memories when they get played these days! (Uh...is that sign of old age or what?)

Hi Tootsall,

Old age??? Well, I'm almost 44. It's my understanding that I can join AARP when I hit 50.

Good music is timeless...it stands up and ages well. In my house the TJB is good music.

Be well.

camelbrass will become famous soon enough
Hi,

TJB is good music in my house as well (saw them live in Sydney in 1968...I was 12!!!). Mind you the kids give a rousing chorus of 'Oh, Dad' when I put it on though.

Regards

Trevor

Paul, I saw 50 come and go some years ago. Let me tell you...it happened about as fast at the 40 event. :)

Naaa, my reference to the memories was more related to the situation I was in at the time... a university student in the late 60's/early 70's with all that went with it "back in them there days".

Hey guys,

Well, today I did it. I "scored" Herb's first album "The Lonely Bull". It set me back $.50 at a thrift store. Awesome condition!

Then my wife TOTALLY spoiled me. We went to Best Buy and got a turntable.

I also found Al Hirt's "Honey In The Horn". As Flounder said in "Animal House"... "Oh boy, is this great"!!!

All the best.

Paul,

Good one! I bought 4 TJB records on E-bay a couple months ago ( The Lonely Bull, Going Places, Whipped Cream & "YUM", and What now my Love) for $11, including shipping. Now I just need a great turntable - Ha! I picked up a couple of Al Hirt CD's on Amazon a month ago (Honey in the Horn & All the Greatest Hits). I know he's considered commercial, but Al, Herb, Raphael, & Doc are what I cut my teeth on, and Al's sound is to die for. If you don't have any Raphael, pick that up too - especially Mendez in Madrid.

Hey Skip,

I got the Audio-Technica (AT-PL50) for $100. It does everything you need. Check it out. You could pay more for a Sony or Technics...but why?

All the best.
