Wow! He's only fifteen, and look how relaxed his face looks when he gets up to double C and above. He doesn't sound great otherwise, but that's some serious talent!

I didn't hear any music. You have to string notes together to make music.
High notes are just that, high notes.
I know a few guys, a couple of them string players, who can make loud, high and squeaky noises on the trumpet. It's no big deal.
Where's the music

Good point. I bet if I step on my cats tail he could hit some of those notes.

Very true. I was just pointing out that he was remarkably efficient up there, especially for a fifteen year-old. But yes, he's definitely got some musical stuff to work out.

If you can get your hands on a copy, get The Oakland Youth Orchestra playing Arthur Cunningham's "Lullaby For A Jazz Baby." It features Jon Faddis at sixteen. He sounds like a polished pro. It is a trumpet solo.

I played in a band with Lee Morgan when he was sixteen, he was a burner at that age.

Andre Watts at fourteen was a world class player. Sergei at that age was a musician of merit.
Don't be impressed by high notes, music is of the utmost importance.

At least the kids are being creative and working at it. They'll get better.

This clip from the 70's cracked me up. Prison outfits? Ron Jeremy on sax?

Wilmer nails it once again! You are right on.

I used to play a triple G (above Triple High C) when I was senior ( and trippas when I was 15) in high school on my Calicchio and my 6a4a. Needless to say my sound was pretty disgusting back then.

I've lost over an octave since then but hopefully have made up for it somehow. I no longer use that "cheater" embochure (other than to demonstrate high notes for students to scare them!)
;)

I don't want to start a big argument, but do you consider alot of the screaming "faddisphere" stuff that Jon Faddis does music?

I am not trying to make you seem like a hypocrit

Jon's playing encompasses all registers of the trumpet. Are you implying that Jon is a one dimensional player? In the thirty or so years I have known Jon he has never been less than amazing.Yes Jon Faddis makes music.
