trumpettrax is an unknown quantity at this point
Jon Faddis (Education)

Does anyone know if Jon Faddis studied music at a college/university? I'm just curious if some of the "older" great trumpet players didn't go to school and study how did they get there? Other than pure talent.

Re: Jon Faddis (Education)

Jon started playing right out of high school with Lionel Hampton's band.
I don't think you need a PhD in music to play well. Just be able to play what's in your heart and practice what's in your mind.

Re: Jon Faddis (Education)

Jon was played lead trumpet with Thad and Mel's band at the Vanguard when he was 18 or so.
