A Little "sail Away' For Ya!

Wanted to post a track of me playing Sail Away by Tom Harrell.
Recording was done with my trusty ol Bach 65g MLV horn while I wait for my STAGE ONE CUSTOM to be finished!!!
I can't wait to get my new horn!
Hope you enjoy the track. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the link...
All comments are welcome of course....
Best
Matt

Some very nice sounds there! I really liked Sail away, but the others posted are nice as well. Keep up the great work!

One of my favorite tunes. Sounds great Matt, nice lines and smooth sound. When are you coming back to Maine? We need to set up a maine "trumpet" gig.

I know you want to sell me that Bach, right? ;) I actually have a student looking for a 65G. Anyone?

Re: A Little "sail Away' For Ya!

Trent -
Of the several things that I like about you - your playing, you're a goofball, you're from Maine, you like the Red Sox etc... one of the most amusing is your appetite for horns. It nearly matches mine...LOL!
Thanks for the thoughts
I would love to come home and play a gig with you...that would be super super cool!
(can't you tell how old we are, I said "super cool" - what a dork)
Even when I get my new stage one I would never part with the 65g. What are the chances of getting a horn like that anymore with the strike and such!
Anyway
PEACE
Matt

Nice. I just finished arranging this tune for the same band as in the My Funny Valentine post I made a month ago.
I am going to play it on my final recital this year.
The changes are really tough.

I hear what you are saying, but look at the changes again. They are nowhere near as tough as you think. Look at the the section that starts on a A major over E chord. ( talking in trumpet key not concert. three bars after this chord you will see g sharp half diminished #2 over C# to C# 7 b9 moving to F# major #5. This whole thing is nothing more than a ii-v in F#. Play a D ascending melodic minor scale over the ii-V - It will work just fine. You're just playing a C# altered scale by doing that. I could actually write a darn book on this tune and how it's a lot easier than people think... maybe I will someday.
Peace
Matt
