I wasn't aware that there was a new Maynard boxed set. Does anyone have a link to it? Of all of the trumpet players that I have listened to since the early 80s, Maynard is the one that I always end up coming back to and I would love to get my hands on a boxed set of some of his best stuff. He has recorded so much that I think the biggest problem would be trying to decide what his best stuff is! :)

Just today I "scored" the albums (vinyl) "Carnival" and "Chameleon". Prior to today, as far as Maynard goes, I had only owned "Conquistador". I am anticipating great things for my ears.

Be well.

Well...I just got done listening to both albums. "Carnival" is trumpets on steroids (aka high note heaven). "Chameleon" is more musical...more of a jazz band "feel".

Next, I'm going to find "Conquistador" on vinyl. All the best.

He absolutely nailed it. It is in my mind, the single greatest physical feat of trumpet playing, from a physical stand point, and sheer bravura to even try this type of thing, any of us will ever witness.

To my knowledge Maynard is the only person to have ever performed this and recorded it. It is a VERY hard to find recording. If you have a chance to pick it up, you should, you will be absolutely amazed.
