![]() | Melaza--Spanish band in San Antonio Saturday night a large group of us went to Carmen de la Calle, a Spanish restaurant on St. Mary's St. in SA. We went to hear Melaza, and we were not disappointed. Though billed as a "big band", the group is more of a 9 piece group, including 3 percussionists. The horns were great, and one of the trumpet players was sporting a gorgeous Kanstul flug with the scratched copper finish. It was a cool horn--and the guy was nice enough to let me handle it a bit during a break. If any of you get a chance, do yourself a favor and check these cats out. They sizzle! (and the sangria is some of the best I've ever tasted)

Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort." |
