Melaza--Spanish band in San Antonio

Saturday night a large group of us went to Carmen de la Calle, a Spanish restaurant on St. Mary's St. in SA. We went to hear Melaza, and we were not disappointed. Though billed as a "big band", the group is more of a 9 piece group, including 3 percussionists. The horns were great, and one of the trumpet players was sporting a gorgeous Kanstul flug with the scratched copper finish. It was a cool horn--and the guy was nice enough to let me handle it a bit during a break.

If any of you get a chance, do yourself a favor and check these cats out. They sizzle! (and the sangria is some of the best I've ever tasted)

How far is that from the Riverwalk and the stuff that's going on for TMEA?
