Mervin 'Kid Merv' Campbell

I just finished watching 'Studio 60' on T.V. and they had a band that I thought was fictional called 'City of New Orleans'. I don't know about the band but the NBC site for Studio 60 had info on the players. The lead player is apparently Mervin Campbell and I've never heard of him before. Wilmer, or maybe Clarence---do you know anything about this guy? Here's the site:

http://www.nbc.com/Studio_60_on_the_Sunset_Strip/music/

You then have to go to the right side of the page, about 1/3 of the way down and click on 'A Musical Christmas Tribute' and 'Highlights'. You can also download the piece for free. Whoever this guy is, he did a beautiful and jazzy version of 'O Holy Night'.

They never got quite close enough to his trumpet; but I'm thinking that was a Monette. Nice sound; nice soulful rendition.

Good stuff!

Nice horn; thanks for identifying it for me. Looks killer on Getzen's website.

Correct. That was his crew too. He was playing that horn last spring at Jazz Fest. He and a bunch of the rest of his family are very talented and a big piece of the music in NOLA.

Re: Mervin 'Kid Merv' Campbell

Kid Merv is a *great* player, and can sing like you would not believe. He can be reached at Kid Merv. If you are interested, you can email me privately on michaelellenby@yahoo.com and I can give you his cell phone.

Kid Merv is now back in New Orleans, and playing up a storm.
