![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Mike Williams...yeah! I had another great gig last night! Our jazz book guy is oversaes on vacation so Mike Williams played the 2nd book last night. Mike has been the lead player for the Count Basie Orchestra for the last 20 years. Mike's wife is the regular 3rd player in our band and a very good player herself. I asked Mike if he wanted to play lead and he said, "No man, I haven't played the jazz book since the lat time I played with you guys. I did give him the lead charts on the Basie tunes we do. As always, Mike is an amazing player and very humble, his timing and style are just as good as is gets. Our jazz guy will be gone for a month so Mike has a few more gigs with us including two on lead to cover for me. He makes a fun band even better to play with. And as always....a lot of stories from traveling the world with the Basie Band. His new Calicchio is just outstanding!! A perfect fit for his style of playing! -cw-

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Mike Williams...yeah! Mike is a Calicchio artist. The horn was built for him. His last Calicchio was also a special model the featured a lightweigh C trumpet bell on the B flat trumpet. This horn REALLY is great horn, very easy (for me) in the upper register. Mike is leaving this one in raw brass. Calicchio also sells a Mike Williams mouthpice...huge backbore!! I'll get pictures the next time he plays with us. -cw-
