Miles Davis's life on film

Great news!

Miles Davis's life is going to be made into a movie, Vince Wilburn, Davis's nephew wants Don Cheadle for the part of Davis.
Antoine Fuqua will probably direct the movie.

I think Don Cheadle is a good choice, for what he's done in LA Crash is just wonderful.

I am going to become Miles Davis. That's a role I could sink my teeth into. He was a great musician and he has an undertone people don't know about. I'd like to do for Miles Davis what Denzel did for Malcolm X. Americans love jazz music, they love Miles Davis, so why not let Snoop Dogg play him?

It would take the most incredible make-up job ever. Miles in the fifties and sixties was a very handsome man. Snoop???????

Yup - I'd go with Cheadle, but someone younger would be needed for the early Miles. I'd like to see what Clint Eastwood would make of this - Bird was good. Or Spike lee to direct? - he could do with making a serious jazz film.

I think Flavor Flav would be perfect to play the 70's & 80's Miles. They knew each other personally and their physical resemblance is palpable.

Cheadle!!!

Don Cheadle is the man! He would be EXCELLENT!!! He is one of my favorite actors. Even when he plays dumb roles (rare, but think Ocean's 11) he's the highlight! I loved him in Out of Sight. He's excellent in a small part in Family Man. In Crash he is fabulous. However, in Hotel Rawanda, he is showing Academy Award talent. He could flesh out the complex character of Miles Davis better then anyone I could think of. This is just my opinion - that of a school teacher/professinal jazz trumpeter - NOT a film expert!

Peace!

Nick

If they did a film about Miles it would suck becuase the conventions of Hollywood would crowd out anything real about Miles. I love Clint but Bird was terrible, like Dustin Hoffman's Lennie it was too painful to watch. Miles is such a strong personality that any attempt to portray him in fiction would pale beside what he was. I would never see such a flick. They'd just focus on the drugs and women and scandal and so on, the music, the only thing that matters, would get short shrift.
