Monk Institute Special w/ Clark Terry, Hargrove

Did anyone see this on PBS? It had Wayne Shorter, Roy Hargrove, Terri Lynn Carrington, Ron Carter, Neena Freelon, Anita Baker, George Duke playing at the White House. It was really interesting to see Wayne Shorter (whom I adore) in a more straight-ahead jam session setting and to hear his sound on standards.

The highlight, sentimentally, for me was Clark Terry putting some serious mack on Freelon during "I Won't Dance." And he sounded super sweet within an octave on flugel.

Check it out if it's rebroadcast. Here's a blog post about it. J.B. Spins: Jazz in the White House

Sorry if this has already been posted about.

Re: Monk Institute Special w/ Clark Terry, Hargrove

I saw this as well. I dug Wayne's motive-based one chorus on "Watermelon Man.". He also seemed VERY uncomfortable...maybe too close to "Da' Shrub", who, in a couple of shots looked extremely bored....go figure. :>)....B
