MUST HAVE's

"Must Have" CD's.

Guidelines: Big/pit/stage/studio bands only (i.e. no combos etc), trumpet specific (soloist) or great section work.

For example: Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orch, MF, Harry Connick's "Red light/Blue light" etc.

and... GO!

How about Wayne Bergerons 'You Call This A Living'. It's got to be the most exciting trumpet CD I've picked up in a few years. The man is an animal.

Carnegie Hall Jazz Band! Jon Faddis, Slide Hampton, and a host of others playing great new arrangments of old big band favorites. Truly awesome.

I have Bergeron's solo release... GREAT album. He's not just the typical "lead" guy. I have plenty of Basie. I'll look into the other ones, thanks guys. Anyone else?

mike ansberry is on a distinguished road
Stan Kenton: Portraits on Standards, Standards in Silhouette, Artistry In Rhythm, Street of Dreams. (I believe they all had Maynard and probably Buddy Brassballs on lead)
Maynard: numerous, but for now, lets say "Si!Si!", which I believe was recorded in '62. ( I guess I'm strange, but I just don't like "Live at Jimmy's" I don't think the playing is as good as any of his earlier stuff.)
Don Ellis: Shock Treatment
Ashley Alexander: really any, but my favorite is "Plays Frank Mantooth"
Bill Chase: Pure Music
Chicago: Night and Day (I'm probably gonna take some flack over this choice, but don't knock it till you've listened to it 4 or 5 times)[/b]

Ted Heath

"Spotlight On The Sidemen"

The best big band record I've ever heard.
