New Cat Anderson Book

Dear fellow trumpet players. After several years of encouragement from this and other trumpet forums and players to re-write Cat Anderson's Trumpet Method, I have finally finished it and it is available to purchase at www.therealcatandersonmethod.com.

I was an 8-year student of Cat's at the time he was living in Los Angeles. My book, The Real Way to Play the Cat Anderson Trumpet Method is a completely rewritten and reorganized book, giving you exercise by exercise instructions, written in a clear, concise manner using his original lesson plans with my personal notes from those lessons, along with input from other former students of his. I have used the knowledge gained from my own students, as well as documenting an extremely successful written-only correspondence with a student in the US Navy band who went through the entire lesson plan with me while stationed in Europe.

Please take a look at my site if you want the real deal for playing in the upper register the Cat Anderson way, were discouraged because you couldn't figure his original book out or just need more information.

Thanks! And happy playing!

Re: New Cat Anderson Book

You might want to buy the book and find out what that's all about. Bob Odneal did, George Rawlin did, Arturo Sandoval did, and so have many others.

How so? About what? I wouldn't make any claims unless i could back them up with complete documentation.

Re: New Cat Anderson Book

Who is insane? Cat Anderson? Geoff Winstead?
Fact: Cat Anderson put out a method book
Fact: He was disappointed with the published version of his book, lessons out of order, parts of lessons spread all over the book, "insane" time frames "play for 2 days" etc.
Fact: Geoff Winstead studied WITH Mr. Anderson for 8 years. He was assigned lessons which are the same ones in the book.
Fact: Mr. Winstead has all his notes from when he studied with Cat, he is probably one of the only people that can fix Cat's original book.

Now if your description of "insane" is referring to playing with your teeth closed I can understand that, but you must know what you are talking about first BEFORE you use such strong insulting language (you really should check out the book!) Cat DID NOT perform with his teeth closed, just check out all the YouTube videos. He did practice with his front teeth touching which you must agree is much less "insane" then say playing with your tongue over the bottom teeth, playing pedal tones or playing on a large bore Bb.

no... sorry, i typed as i was looking at the method book... i meant it was awesome... playing with teeth closed is great, if it works for you... sorry if you took it wrong, being a sophmore where my routine include about three minutes of long tones, i could imagine the idea of playing a g for ten minutes, not to mention, it claimed that you could hit dubba cs... i just was overwhelmed by what i saw...

Sorry to ltg trumpet for maybe being too sensative! I should have asked if that was a good or bad thing first!
