 | New Jim Manley CD I posted this in the whatcha listening to thread and then decided it needed a thread of its own. Jim is a great guy and great player! Just got the new Jim Manley cd, "Splendor In Brass 2". It is REALLY good. It is a big band treatment of jazz standards with numerous solos. Some really great St. Louis musicians are on the sessions. Jim sounds great. His sound has really gotten big. He seems to just keep getting better. I didn't think that was supposed to happen with us guys over 50? |

| Re: New Jim Manley CD I had a little more time over the weekend so I gave the Manley cd a more thorough listen. I am really impressed with the caliber of the recording. The group is about as tight as any recording I own. The treatment of jazz standards is interesting. A lot of tight section stuff with quite a lot of jazz solos. Jim wrote a tune called "For Maynard" which is, appropriately enough, a tribute to Maynard. It's a ballad with Jim playing one chorus of the melody in the high range. All in all, it's a very enjoyable recording. |
