Trent,
Impressive list to say the least. One I didn't see was Smile by Nat King Cole..one of my favorite slow jazz tunes of all time

I love that tune! Did you know that actor Charlie Chaplin wrote Smile? That's a neat piece of trivia.

Coming soon (after I get back from the RMTF) I will present a "Must know" list.

This list was a big start... the next list we can work up a more manageable list of around 100 tunes.

Cheers,

T

Re: New Thread #1: My top jazz tune list... thoughts?

"Broadway" and "Broadway Blues" are really fun to play, coincidentally, they go really well if you put them together: play "Broadway" then just go straight immediately on to "Broadway Blues".

Re: New Thread #1: My top jazz tune list... thoughts?

it's a real book of favourites. I'm more into the modern thing but love Hubbard, maybe include Hub-Tones in there. Great tune. As for memorising these tunes, it's so beneficial. I hate lugging around flugel, trumpet, stand, mutes and music (plus beer on longer trips) it's very annoying. If you memorise the tunes, you don't need a stand or folder of big tunes. I don't claim to have all these memorised yet, give me a couple of weeks though. It helps doing them in all keys too, so you don't get caught out with a singer.

Trent,

Do you have a separate club date or "casual" list? I'd be interested in seeing that as well.
