I think I was brainwashed by listening to the Mayard version of this so many times. I kept waiting to hear Lynn Nicholsen chime in.

For those of you in the US who may not know of Derek Watkins here is some info:

Derek Watkins (trumpeter) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You will all have heard him before because he has been on every Bond soundtrack since Dr No.

And, when PBS run their bi-annual fund-raising "specials" they sometimes put a couple of James Last concerts on. Derek is almost always featured (and no matter how "hokey" you might think James Last's music and stage presence is... those folk up there look like they're having FUN and the music really is worth listening to). I can remember my parents listening to his music back around the early 60's and he's still at it! Amazing longevity.

Yes, the sad thing is that James Last had a bit of a reputation over here for being cheezy when in fact most of the time his music was perfectly normal swing. It was just some of the mantovani like swirling string arrangements that were a bit silly.

Oh, and that was a good lesson on how to mike up a marimba!

Nice video, and easy on James Last now, I must admit I have several of his albums.
