And then there are beginners like me who would get smoked in a jam session either way. At least I don't have to embarrass myself stumbling over II-V-I's. I've found this page very useful. I've got my Jazz Combo audition tonight, thankfully I'm feeling pretty confident.

These are really great. Band in a Box has one advantage though: You can pick any tempo you want.

There is an open-source, free program called "Audacity" that is relatively small and quite powerful. There are script add-ons that will allow one to take any file and alter both tempo and key, along with a hundred other different characteristics. I'm sure there are a number of Audacity experts here, of which I'm NOT one, but I wanted to drop this in.
