Cool Real Book backing tracks...

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, so please accept my apologies in advance if it has.

In another forum that I frequent (Guitar-related, my other musical passion), someone posted a link to some 'Jazz Charts' for others interested in learning the changes in some 400 'standard' tunes. They also posted a link to 'recordings' of each.

This is the part that you guys should find interesting... the 'recordings' are (very well made) MP3s of just about every song found in The Real Book. I spent about 2 hours the other day playing through some of my favorites from The Real Book along with the MP3 files from this site:

Backing Tracks

Enjoy!

I agree that they may be better than band in a box but I listened to a few of these and couldn't take it. if you get used to playing with these and then go to a jam session you will get smoked. Jazz Improv is about 10 percent the notes you play and 90 percent your sound and time. These don't cut it for me.

sinofian--

Thanks for this link, these are great! Stuff like this will never replace live experience, but it's a perfect way to take "batting practice"!

Re: Real Book backing tracks...

I'm glad you guys (mostly) found this useful.

I currently don't have the time to play with a group outside of the rock band that I'm in & haven't done any real improv on my horn since my College days some 17 years ago. It's these types of resources that are helping me get back into the swing of things (sorry for the cheesy pun)...
